I am one of “those” people! I love math. I have a BA degree in Mathematics. I taught high school algebra and geometry and I have been known to do math problems…just for the fun of it!

My favorite subject in high school was geometry. My Type A personality loved the step by step challenge of doing proofs! I can vividly remember staying after school with my AP Geometry teacher (shout out to Ms. Pate!!) asking for extra proofs to work on.

I received this product free of charge for review purposes and I was financially compensated for my time. All opinions expressed in this post are my own and I was not required to post a positive review of the product.

My daughter, on the other hand, is NOT one of “those” people. She does NOT share my same affection for math. In fact, if asked, she would probably tell you that math is her least favorite subject!

Knowing that my daughter doesn’t enjoy math, I have been determined to find ways to make it more fun for her. In the process, I have discovered that games can be extremely powerful learning tools! Our most recent educational game is DragonBox Elements from We Want to Know.

About DragonBox Elements Math Game

Geared for ages 8+, DragonBox Elements is an app consisting of 100+ puzzles to help kids develop a deep understanding of the logic of geometry. Using whimsical characters, shapes and their properties, kids recreate the mathematical proofs that define geometry.

Since the geometry in the game remains hidden, kids learn and gain confidence even if mathematics is a subject they don’t usually feel comfortable with. ~We Want To Know

How DragonBox Teaches Geometry

The approach that DragonBox Elements takes in teaching geometry is quite simple, yet effective!

1) Players learn to identify shapes based on their properties.

2) Players solve logic-based puzzles by using the properties of the given shapes placed in complex figures to draw conclusions about other shapes in the figure.

3) Players progress through the game using the definitions, postulates and theorems (from Euclid’s Elements) to solve increasingly sophisticated puzzles.

Having Fun Learning Geometry!

For me, the very best part about DragonBox Elements is that my kids can have fun learning geometry. I am thrilled to be able to expose them to the logic of geometry in a fun and VERY nonthreatening way!

Yes, DragonBox Elements is a game and it is FUN! However…

The logical reasoning in the game is identical to the logical reasoning used in formal geometric proof, only with a kinesthetic gaming component that allows players to develop logic pathways with their fingers. ~We Want To Know

My kiddos enjoy it when I let them play video games. I enjoy it when my kiddos can learn and have fun at the same time! DragonBox Elements satisfies both my AND my kids’ desires!

Curious about how a game can teach geometry and mathematical proofs at the same? Check out this step by step proof of an equilateral triangle:

Watch your kids learn geometry in a matter of hours, without them even noticing they’re learning! ~We Want To Know
