Let me start by saying that there are lots of great homeschool writing programs available. However, when it comes to choosing a writing curriculum for my kids, I’m a little picky! Well, truth be told, I am really picky! Through the years I have tried a number of different programs and I’ve run across a lot of the same problems. My kids don’t like it. Or, I don’t like it.  Either way, the programs just did not work for us.

I received this product free of charge for review purposes and was compensated for my time. All opinions expressed in this post are my own and I was not required to post a positive review of the product.

When it comes to a writing curriculum that works for both me and my kids, I look for three things. It’s got to be engaging for my kids. It’s got to be easy for me to teach. And, it’s got to make my kids better writers.

It may not sound like a lot, but when you’ve unsuccessfully tried multiple programs you’re desperate to find something that works! Well, folks, I’ve found it! WriteShop is THE best writing curriculum for us and we’ve been using it for years!

Easy Writing Curriculum for Me

WriteShop I is an incredibly easy curriculum for me to teach! With step-by-step instructions, I’m never at a loss for what to teach, how to teach it, or what order to teach it in. The lessons plans for each lesson contain all of the teaching steps from pre-writing to brainstorming and sloppy copies to final drafts and grading.

When it comes to a curriculum, I like being told what to do. This means I don’t have to spend extra time and brain power trying come up with supplemental ideas or having to create writing assignments for the kids on my own! Needless to say, I like easy!

Engaging Creative Writing for Them

I don’t know about you, but it’s not easy for me to homeschool my children when I know that the curriculum I’ve selected is not working for them! I’ve experienced this multiple times and it’s always hard for me to just call it quits on a curriculum. But if it’s not working, sometimes it’s better to not push through.
