Heritage Humanities is an online classical literature collection with serious perks and benefits! It is unlike any other literary resource I’ve seen! But, before I discuss the perks and benefits, I think it’s important to understand more about Heritage Humanities and why it was created.
About Heritage Humanities
The folks at Heritage Humanities believe it’s imperative to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the foundational building blocks of Western civilization.
The goal is “to make it as easy as possible for future generations to learn and understand this material with the belief that it will enrich their lives and enable them to better contribute to society as thoughtful individuals and citizens.”
These are some of the same reasons I chose a classical education for my children! Which is why I was thrilled to find this resource! Now, onto the perks and benefits!
The Ultimate FREE Resource for Online Classical Literature
First, the biggest perk is that currently, this resource is absolutely FREE. Yes, I was completely shocked when I discovered that I didn’t have to pay a dime to access the books in the collection. Once you take a look at the selection, you’ll be just as surprised as I am!
Easy-to-Use Online Book Collection
Secondly, using the online Heritage Humanities portal is super easy! Simply visit the website and click “Go to Application.”
This takes you to the book application where all the literature goodness is located! You can use the search bar to look for specific titles or authors. Or, you can search by age recommendation or by categories:
- British Inheritance
- Rome
- Judeo-Christian Theology
- Greek
- Additional Electives (American History & Culture, Literacy, Art & Architecture)
Or, you can always select “All Books” to view the growing list of over a hundred titles! Just click on a title to begin reading!
Auditory Access to Classical Literature
Not only can you read the classic works of literature, you can listen to them as well! This is huge for auditory learners! Plus, kids who aren’t as proficient in reading can follow along and track the words as the text is read to them!
Track Your Reading History and Progress
Although you can access the titles without creating an account, I highly recommend you still do so! Creating an account allows you to keep a record of your reading history and progress so you can easily log in and pick up where you left off.
Adjustable Reading Settings
When reading the text, there are various settings that you can adjust. You can make the reading background white, black, or beige depending on your preference. The text can be justified or unjustified.
Plus you can adjust the spacing and the text size, which is great for younger readers (or older readers like me with aging eyes)!
Read Classical Literature from Multiple Devices
I’m a paper girl. I prefer to hold an actual book in my hand when I’m reading. However, in this digital age, I’ve discovered that many kids prefer the ease and accessibility of reading from a device.
So, whether your student prefers to read on a laptop, tablet, or phone, the collection adapts to their device of choice!
This means that you / your child can access classical literature on the go, without worrying about forgetting the physical book you left by the front door as you raced out of the house for football practice.
Yep, this has happened to me quite often!
Define & Pronounce Unfamiliar Words as You Read
How often do your kids simply read over a word without knowing the meaning? Or maybe they stumble over the correct pronunciation.
Not anymore! With Heritage Humanities, there is even a built-in dictionary and pronunciation guide.
No Distracting, Inappropriate Ads
I’m hesitant when my kids use the internet. You never know what may “pop up” on the screen while they browse online.
However, the Heritage Humanities book collection is housed within its own online application. There’s no need for students to navigate away from the portal. Everything they need to read or listen to the text is included.
And since Heritage Humanities is currently an ad-free application, I don’t have to worry about any inappropriate ads popping up!
Incorporate into any Curriculum
Lastly, you can incorporate Heritage Humanities into most any history, literature, or humanities curriculum that features classical literature of Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, the cultural inheritance of the British Isles, or Judeo-Christian Theology and Morality.
Just search through the extensive collection of books to find what you’re studying and begin reading today!
