We still had quite a bit of candy left from our church’s harvest carnival. So, in desperate need of “getting rid” of it, I decided that we would do some candy experiments. I found this really cool website, called…you guessed it…Candy Experiments! Be sure to head over and check it out…lots of fun stuff to try!
So, our first experiment was the Floating M’s & S’s. This was SOO cool! Soak some Skittles or m&m’s in water and pay close attention to what floats!
Can you see our floating m?
Next, we tried Dissolving Hot & Cold. We used some Smarties as well as some Milk Duds. The hot water is in the two cups on the left…could you tell?
Finally, we did a little color mixing.
JI, who mixed EVERY single color of Skittles and m&m’s we had discovered that mixing all the colors makes brown!!!
We tried the Density Rainbow and I REALLY wanted it to work, but it didn’t! I also wanted to try the Lifesaver Lights, but we didn’t have any Wintergreen Lifesavers. I think the kids would really like this one…so I may just have to add Wintergreen Lifesavers to the grocery list so we can try it!
I thought about trying some of the other chocolate experiments, but I figured it would be best if I just hid the chocolate from the kids…you never know when one of my chocolate craving may hit!!! 😉

oh what a great idea ! I took all the kids snickers and hid them for my cravings. Sad isn’t it? Now I just have to figure out how to hide them from MYSELF !!!!

haha!! we ‘bought’ back most of the kids candy and mommy stashed all the good stuff for later.
for herself, that is.
love the floating m.

So glad you enjoyed candy experiments! Too bad the density rainbow didn’t work out. It takes a lot of practice. I put up a new movie on the website that might make the process more clear, if that helps.
Best of luck homeschooling your 5 kids. What a project! I am inspired by your enthusiasm.

Cool! We’ll be trying some of these, now that the weather isn’t great for outside science stuff…

My boys would love to do this!

Your letter float turned out much better than some of the ones I’ve seen before.
I never thought to do color mixing with candy……
