The Great Paper {Airplane} Caper

A number of months back we read the book The Great Paper Caper by Oliver Jeffers.

It is a fun book about a mystery in the forest. The branches on the trees have begun to disappear. A full-scale investigation is launched and it is later discovered that Bear has secretly been cutting down tree branches. He has been feeding the branches into his paper making machine so that he can make the perfect paper airplane to enter into the 112th Paper Airplane Competition. This is a cute little book that even has instructions for making your own paper airplanes. My daughter loved following the instructions to make her own paper airplane.

The book also spurred on my sons’ idea to make and sell paper airplanes, much like their creative books. They made quite a collection! I had to remind them about all of the trees they used up making their airplanes! 🙂

Gotta love their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. Even now, months after this adventure, they are still trying to come up with their own little business and ways to make money! It reminds me of myself when I was a little girl! I used DMC floss to make bracelets and I went around the neighborhood with my handmade order form trying to sell them! I guess it is in the blood!  😉

    Hi Christie,

Thank you so much for your kind words!!!

First off, I need you to clarify. When you click on the link for the sample template, does it open up? If you see a set of insert cards with SAMPLE written diagonally across it, then you are able to download the file just fine. At that point, you could either save it to your computer or print it. If I am not understanding you, please clarify and let me know if you have a Mac or PC.
Secondly, the files are only pdf files. However, there is a blank template that you can use to make your own insert cards: http://www.educationcubes.com/2011/01/drawing-blank.html

Hi Jennifer! I have purchased the picture block cubes that you have made soooo many awesome resources for, but i have some questions before joining to get the goodies. When I click to make sure I can download the sample you have on the FAQ page it comes up in PDF format but I cannot download it. I do have the Adobe that I should but am not sure if I should be able to download it or just print it from the page that comes up. Then I was wondering if (and how!) can these be converted to Word so that I can change and tweak for our needs. Thanks for your help. You have been a LIFESAVER!!! If only you knew…how much I really mean that! This is my first year to homeschool (boys 7 and 9 yrs old) and we just completed our first week. GEEZ, it’s tough stuff!!! Also sorry to be posting a question about the cubes here but for the life of me I couldn’t figure out where the “post a comment” was on the cubes page. Like I said, we are just starting our 2nd week so that should explain my brain mush. Thanks again! I would hug you right now if I could!!!

When my nephew was about 5 his parents found him and his friends in their garden – he and a couple of little friends had set up a “theme park” there and were charging their other friends 5 pence to come in! He’s kept the entrepeneurial spirit, and will probably go into business after finishing a computer and maths MA at Oxford next year.

Too cute! My kids give me dandelions all the time! They may be weeds, but I don’t dare tell them! They will find out soon enough, right?!?! 😉

When I was little, I set up a stand trying to sell pretty little bouquets in my grandma’s yard. Couldn’t understand why nobody wanted any. Now I know it was because they were dandelions, lol.
