What’s included in each Homeschool / After School Enrichment kit?
Each Enriched at Home kit includes printable lessons and activities that reinforce family connection through the use of three fun, educational modules:
- S.E.L.F. (Social and Emotional Learning for Families)
- Nature
- Nutrition
The three research-backed modules provide the framework for developing greater self confidence, academic performance, and health. The modules are the guiding structure for the entire program!
The S.E.L.F. module focuses on cultivating the child’s innate potential for goodness by creating an environment rich in character development. Some of the character traits explored include integrity, forgiveness, honesty, generosity, compassion, bravery, optimism, patience, resourcefulness, and creativity.
The Nature module includes a nature-based lesson with multiple corresponding activities that help connect the child and their senses to the natural world.
The Nutrition module provides family-friendly health information along with both nutritional food suggestions and recipes for the family to make and enjoy together.
What’s in the Current [January 2021] Kit?
I am loving the January 2021 Enriched at Home kit. The 25 page digital pdf file is filled with enrichment goodness!!!
The S.E.L.F. module of the January 2021 Enriched at Home kit focuses on personal initiative. Personal initiative is described as “noticing what needs to be done and doing it.”
Oh how my kids need to learn this character trait, especially when it comes to taking out the trash!
“It’s recognizing a need on your own – whether it be yours or someone else’s – and then acting to improve that situation without any request or requirement.” I appreciate how the guide describes the character trait in a way that is clearly understood by children.
But, the guide doesn’t just stop there. The S.E.L.F. module alone is jam-packed! Check out some of the information covered:
- definition of personal initiative
- examples of how one can take personal initiative
- why developing personal initiative matters
- the opposite of having personal initiative
- tips for parents to help nurture personal initiative in their kids
- activities to develop personal initiative
I want to dig in deeper with this last point; the activities to help develop personal initiative. I am very impressed with this portion of the module because this is where you get to put what you learned about personal initiative into action! The guide provides five activities for developing personal initiative:
- Affirmations – Kids learn to plant positive messages about themselves in their minds.
- Turning around an unmotivated you – Kids learn how to motivate themselves to take personal initiative, even when they don’t feel like it.
- Noticing Personal Initiative – Kids learn to notice personal initiative not only in themselves, but in others as well.
- Finding personal initiative in literature – The character trait is brought to life with age-appropriate books that focus on personal initiative.
- Family Challenge: Goal Setting – Together the parent and child make a plan to accomplish both short and long-term goals.
And, if that wasn’t enough, there is a fun completion chart for the child can check off these activities as they accomplish them, so that they can track their progress!
All that…and we’ve only covered the first of the three modules in this current kit!
The Nature module of the January 2021 Enriched at Home kit is all about birds. There are four different bird related activities; one for each week of the month:
- Recording Your Sit Spot in Winter – Repeated on a quarterly basis, kids do an in-depth drawing and observational study of their special outdoors location.
- Bird Feeder in my Window – Kids build a simple bird feeder and journal about the birds attracted to it.
- Sound Mapping – Kids use their sense of hearing by visiting an outdoor space, tuning in to the nature sounds around them, and making a visual map about what they hear and where the sounds originated from.
- eBird Watching Expedition – Kids visit a nature reserve or a bird refuge and journal about the birds they see.
Each activity has it’s own descriptive explanation to make planning for the parent super easy! Plus, there are colorful pages providing bird anatomy, the life cycle of a bird, fun facts about birds, and additional activities to explore.
Lastly, the Nutrition module of the January 2021 Enriched at Home kit focuses on detoxification and cruciferous vegetables. Not only does the guide explain what toxins are, but it also provides simple steps that the family can take to detoxify.
The two recipes for the family to make are Bacon and Date Cruciferous Crunch and Tracy’s Detox Soup, made with lemon, garlic, cilantro, turmeric, ginger, and avocado. Yum!!
As you can see, the Enriched at Home kit is jam-packed with loads of fun and engaging character, nature, and nutrition activities. Each subscription will have you anxiously awaiting the excellent enrichment planned for the upcoming month!
