How exactly are my son’s classes “pandemic-proof”? Well, it’s actually quite simple! My son is taking his MYTEK classes online. That means that as long as he’s got a computer and internet connection, he can have class! No need to load up the kids in the car! No need to leave the house!

And, can I tell you, that made his day, especially since he was convinced that taking coding classes was completely out of the question when the pandemic first hit.

And, if you are lucky enough to live in Minneola, Florida (or perhaps you are planning a vacation there), MYTEK classes can be taken in person as well!

MYTEK LAB Online Education Details

The geniuses behind MYTEK LAB, Stephen and Jacky Souders (aka Mr. and Mrs. MYTEK) have made quality online technology education not only fun and interactive, but easily accessible. My son is currently enrolled in the Tuesday 1pm online TEKnology Lab Level 1 class.

This full year course counts as 1 credit in Computer Education. While providing an introductory look at many different areas of technology, the TECKnology Lab Level 1 class also covers the following topics:

• Computer Fundamentals
• 2D Game Art
• Programming
• 3D Modeling for Games
• VR Development
• Web Design
• Web Development
• 3D Modeling for 3D Printing

Every week (minus holidays) my son is excited to log into class for live instruction with Mr. MYTEK. But, do we have to adjust our schedule to make sure we have a laptop and internet connection every Tuesday at 1pm? Nope!

Can’t make the online class? Forget what was done during the class? Mr. and Mrs. MYTEK have got you (and me) covered! In addition to live classes, video recordings of the live classes are provided in the student dashboard.

Once my son is logged in to either the live or recorded class, Mr. MYTEK teaches the lesson while my son follows along. We have found that it’s helpful to either use two computers or, in our case, he watches the lesson on our tablet and follows along while working on assignments on his laptop. (We tried just using the split screen on his laptop, but having two devices really is a lot easier!)

After the instruction, students have graded assignments and/or quizzes to complete with a project due at the end of each semester. My son thoroughly LOVES working on his MYTEK LAB assignments and projects. (Yes, kids coding with MYTEK look forward to doing their homework!)

It honestly makes me so very happy seeing him passionate about something he really enjoys!

But, I will let you in on a little secret. I have actually used MYTEK to motivate him to get other things accomplished. “You can’t code with MYTEK until ALL your schoolwork and chores are done.” Yep, on those days, he completes his schoolwork and chores in record time!
