I truly believe that we should move forward into the future based on what we learn from the past. Whether last month or hundreds of years ago, we should let both the accomplishments and mistakes of the past help guide us in our decision making both today and tomorrow! There is always much to be gained and learned from exploring the lives of those who came before us!

Eternity through the Rearview Mirror: How Simple Faith Changes Everything—Seventeen Extraordinary Lives by author, actor, historian, Annette Hubbell, does just that!

Christian Role Models

This collection of first-person conversations provide us with a glimpse into the lives of several amazing heroes who let their Christian faith guide them. The seventeen Christian role models included within Eternity through the Rearview Mirror are:

  • Galileo Galilei
  • Johann Sebastian Bach
  • John Newton
  • Elizabeth Fry
  • Sojourner Truth
  • Abraham Lincoln
  • Harriet Beecher Stowe
  • Harriet Tubman
  • George Washington Carver
  • Amy Wilson Carmichael
  • Mary McLeod Bethune
  • Aimee Semple McPherson
  • Corrie ten Boom
  • C.S. Lewis
  • Gladys May Aylward
  • Louie Zamperini
  • Johnny Cash

The one thing that all of these world changers have in common is that “they publicly acknowledged God as the source of their accomplishments.”

“The lives of these ‘greats’ illustrate that anything is possible alongside the power of God. Many of these seventeen are not well-known, but they should all be remembered, for they can inspire us, motivate us, and remind us that with God, anything is possible. They’re great role models!” ~ Annette Hubbell

Homeschool History, Bible, & Character

In addition to the first-person narratives, Hubbell, an amazing storyteller, begins each chapter with a brief introduction and ends the chapter with relevant Bible verses as well as helpful links for further study! This book is an excellent resource for Bible, history, and character studies!

I especially love how Hubbell concludes the collection of narratives by encouraging the reader to learn from these Christian role models and become an 18th extraordinary person whose simple faith changes everything! She incites the reader to totally trust God and allow Him to work through us so that we all can make positive change in the world!

Free Printable Notebooking Pages

I enjoy making printables, but when I find books with information that I want my kids to not just read, but to internalize, I usually make corresponding notebooking pages for them. So, of course I made printable notebooking pages to go along with each of the Christian role models featured in this book as well! Each of the seventeen leaders has both a full-lined notebooking page as well as a half-lined page (which allows space for both illustrations and writing).
