About Dr. Ben Carson

Dr. Benjamin Carson was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 18, 1951. He grew up in a low-income family with his brother and mother. Despite facing numerous challenges and obstacles, he excelled in his studies and went on to attend Yale University, earning a degree in psychology.

After graduating from Yale, Dr. Carson attended the University of Michigan Medical School, where he discovered his passion for neurosurgery. Then he went on to complete his residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and became their Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at the age of 33!

Throughout his career, Dr. Carson has performed many groundbreaking surgeries and has received numerous accolades for his work. Most notably, Dr. Carson was the first surgeon to successfully separate twins conjoined at the head!

He has also authored several books, including his autobiography, “Gifted Hands,” which details his journey from poverty to becoming one of the most respected doctors in the world. His book later became a movie! Check out the movie below:

More About Ben Carson

Dr. Carson’s accomplishments go beyond his medical achievements. He has also been recognized for his philanthropic work and his commitment to education. In 1994, he and his wife founded the Carson Scholars Fund, which awards scholarships to students who demonstrate academic excellence and humanitarian qualities.

Speaking of Dr. Carson and his lovely wife, Candy – I have had the pleasure of meeting both of them. I was especially impressed with their persistent urging for my kids to read a lot – and the video below explains why:

Also, Dr. Ben Carson’s non-profit, American Cornerstone Institute, has created a free educational online program called Little Patriots to teach children civics lessons, history, and American values.

In addition to his philanthropic work and commitment to education, Dr. Carson has also been involved in politics. In 2016, he ran for the Republican nomination for President of the United States. Although he did not win the nomination, he gained a significant following and was later appointed as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

Dr. Carson truly is a remarkable man! And that is why I created these free printable notebooking pages about him – to help children document what they learn about him and his achievements.

Dr. Ben Carson is a great American who exemplifies the American traditions of hard work and independence. We all are capable of doing, becoming, and serving. Letting someone else make you a victim, telling you, “You are not capable” destroys the soul. I love looking at your creative ideas and I’ll visit some of your sponsors as well. I’ve been a teacher for 28 years and presently the Reading Coach/Literacy Interventionist for a school district in NM. I’m looking at starting a preschool as well as small group tutoring in reading as I move beyond a verbal/financially abusive 2nd marriage and move back home to Utah where my family and grandbabies are. Thanks for sharing.
