For those who don’t know, I have five children, including two sets of twin boys! Yes, you read that correctly, I have two sets of twin boys! Fortunately for me, my singleton is a first-born girl, who is a HUGE help! However, my boys often get confused and think that she is the second mother in charge!
As a mother of five kids, I have lots of reasons for homeschooling my children! However, I thought it would be fun to list the reasons why my twins like being homeschooled!
So, in no particular order, here are some of the reasons that my twin boys like being homeschooled:
1) We can read and do our schoolwork wherever we want like in our bean bags!
2) We get to eat some of our science experiments!
3) We get to do fun stuff like arts and crafts!
3) We get to have picnic lunches whenever we want…even inside!
4) We can learn lots of new things [like sewing]!
5) We go on fun field trips [like the aquarium]!
6) We can pretend to be in the battle of Jericho…like in the Lego movie, The Promise Fulfilled! {Yes, they are using their drums and cymbals!!}
7) We get to learn about snails and see baby snail eggs!
8) We can help each other!
9) We get to play lots of fun games [like Spelling BINGO]!
10) Best of all, whatever we do, we get to do it TOGETHER!
Mom’s Disclaimer: While the boys like being homeschooled mostly because they get to be together, I like that they are homeschooled because they get to be individuals! While they may look alike, they are all very different. Far too often people see and treat them as a set rather than as individuals! I am so thankful that I am able to tailor their learning based on their individual interests, needs, and how they each learn best!

Brandy, I am TOTALLY with you about being concerned that schools would not see my kids as individuals!
That is so sad that children so young do not enjoy school! At that age learning should definitely be fun! THanks for sharing!
Veronica
I love this! My daughters while not twins, they look like they’re twins. They are 11 months apart. People ALWAYS refer to them as a set. It is a daily struggle to show them they are individuals and kinda force them to make decisions separate from each other. You’ve done a fantastic job!
Angela Taylor
Very Sweet list, It’s so true that it’s one of the joys of homeschooling that we get to really understand our children’s needs and have the opportunity to tailor their learning to them. Thanks for sharing!
Shelly
Thanks Jenn! I will try it next week.

Oh, my kids LOVE our bean bag chairs AND they are super durable! Well, with four boys, they kinda have to be extra durable to last! LOL!!
Stef Layton
I really wish we had bean bag chairs! We rough it on the floor! =)

This is so sweet!!! Two of my children went to public school before we started homeschooling and they both are like, “Mommy, we never want to go back! We love being together everyday.” Of course that made my heart glad.
Happy Summer to you!

We just recently watched The Promise Fulfilled. The kids and I both enjoyed it. Love your list!

What a great list! Thank you for sharing. I feel like I need to put one together with my kids, too!

I can’t imagine having twins, much less two sets of boy twins. However, I have two boys who are very close in age (5 and 4) and almost the exact same height…and they look almost identical. The other day my daughter said, “If I had a dollar for every person that asked if the boys were twins, I’d be rich!” Jenn, I’m sure you’d be a millionaire by now!!
Anyway, your reason for individuality is one of my main reasons for homeschooling. All three of my children (I have a very helpful, motherly 8 yr. old daughter too), are all blessed in different ways and I worried that the schools would not see what I see. I worried they would be labeled or compared with each other and against others and that the label they picked (most likely the K teacher) is what would stick with my kids for life.
In fact, having been an elementary teacher (2nd grade) for 7 years, I saw it happen all the time. I always had kids come to 2nd grade saying they hated school. I never could imagine how a child so young could hate learning…I would spend the rest of the year making sure they loved to learn again. Thanks for this post. It was fun to read!!

Hi! You’re list is wonderful! I want do this with my son.
Mama Jenn
Thanks Ginny! I have often wondered how my oldest set of twins would be treated in a traditional school setting. One is very academic driven…a perfectionist…much like myself! LOL! The other is extremely creative! I have always wondered if one would be labeled the “smart” one. Hence, I love that I can hone in on their individual God-given gifts and talents and affirm them accordingly!!!
Mama Jenn
Thanks Stephanie!!!
Mama Jenn
Thanks Lori! Wish they were always that nice to each other!!! LOL!!

It really is astonishing some of the things that people actually let come out of their mouths!!! LOL!!

I love that you pointed out their individuality. I am a twin and have friends with twin boys (3 separate friends, all have a set of twin boys!) I have 4 kids 3boys and 1 girl and a lady once commented that “eww, they all look alike; like they are clones.” =( really? you said that out loud??? My response was that of course they do, they all have the same mother and the same father (same genes!) We love homeschooling and my kids do too!
Lori
The two of them sharing a book on their laps melts my heart!
Stephanie@Harrington Harmonies
Awesome and very fun photos. A great quick read with tons of heart. Loved how you emphasized the kids’ individuality which is a homeschooler’s pride…that we get to be individuals and can be ourselves.
Ginny
Fantastic list! It is wonderful that they appreciate the flexibility of being able to learn how and where they want. I especially appreciate your disclaimer. While I can’t relate to life as a twin or raising them, I do recall when I was younger that the public school I went too used to separate twins in different classes but still referred to them as a single unit. We were all friends and they often expressed how it bothered them. Kudos to you, Mom, for being able to help all your children to be themselves!
