When I was contacted my Grapevine Studies to review The Life of Joseph, I jumped at the opportunity! I had heard so many wonderful things about Grapevine Studies and was VERY interested in seeing what all the excitement was about!
Well, let me just say…who would have thought that “stick figuring” through the Bible could be so much fun?!?! We have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with this study! In fact, my daughter recently informed me that “drawing her Bible timeline was her favorite part of doing school!” So, want to know more about this new, highly favored addition to our curriculum?
From Grapevine: Walk with Joseph as he goes from a prince in Canaan to slavery in Egypt and then to the courts of Pharaoh. Your students will enjoy this engaging Bible study! Take your students on a journey with Joseph as he travels from the tents of Jacob to the house of Potiphar and eventually to the courts of Pharaoh. Watch to see how Joseph reacts to his slavery and false accusations. See how God used difficult circumstances in Josephs life to prepare him to save thousands of people, including those who mistreated him. Josephs story is one of betrayal, forgiveness, and restoration. Introduce your students to Joseph today!
The Life of Joseph is a multi-level study that contains 14 weekly lessons (50 daily lessons). The Student Book includes lessons pages, timelines, memory verses, reviews and a map. The Teacher Book contains contains lesson notes, timelines, stick figure drawings, a map, lesson goals, key points, memory verses, and review questions & answers. (View a sample lesson here.)
Our Thoughts: I REALLY appreciate having the full color Teacher’s Book as a guide to draw the cute little stick figures. I just don’t think I could be that creative with stick figures if left all on my own! Plus, I love the the Teacher Book guides you through the daily activities! Each lesson begins with reading scripture from the Bible, followed by discussion of the scriptures(s), which is sometimes followed by a map assignment. Finally we get to draw our stick figures (after looking up some words in our Bible dictionary)! The drawing is by far the kid’s absolute favorite part!
Supplies: Students will need the Grapevine Studies Student book and colored pencils. Teachers will need the Grapevine Studies Teacher book, a Bible, a Bible dictionary, a dry erase board & markers (8 colors).
How I set up OUR Grapevine Study: First, I began printing off the Student eBook for the kids. Each child will need their own copy of the book. Secondly, I printed off the Teacher eBook for myself. I don’t do well with reading from a computer, so I prefer a hard copy. However, to save on paper and ink, I printed my copy using the “2-to-1” mode and the “both sides” mode with two pages printing on both sides of each piece of paper. I hole punched both the Student Books and my Teacher Book and placed each of them in a 3-pronged folder. However, once I knew that Grapevine was a “keeper,” I printed the remaining pages of the Teacher and Student books and moved from the 3-pronged folders to 3-ring binders!
Once I had all of our supplies ready, we let the fun begin! Here is what my whiteboard looked like after our first day! Notice that my drawings look VERY much like those from the Teacher’s Book…just with more hair!
The kids had a blast following along and drawing their own stick figures!
Needless to say, we LOVE Grapevine Studies! While the kids love the drawing, my favorite part is that we are working through the Bible TOGETHER! So, are you ready to start “stick-figuring” through the Bible with your kids?

I had to stop by and say hi! I love your blog – I’m a mother of 15 month old twin boys. I’m always looking to connect to other mothers of multiples. Glad I found you!!

I know what you mean! I thought the same thing, but my kids LOVE Grapevine so much that I decided to make it work! We do Grapevine first and then move into our other subjects (including ECC.)

As much as I’d love to do one of these studies along with ECC, I think it may be too much. I would like to try one next summer. Thanks for sharing!
