Glitter Germs

With all of the sickness and germs we have been trying to avoid, I decided to do a little experiment with the kids to teach them about germs. (Plus, it went well with our “G” week.) We used a bar of soap, glitter, and a pump bottle of soap. I put glitter in their hands and told them that the glitter was like germs. I gave them a bar of soap and told them to wash their hands. They got “germs” all over the soap…

…and left the germs behind for the next person to get. Yuck!

So, I explained why I had them using soap from a pump bottle rather than a bar of soap. Plus, I made them wash their hands until all the glitter was gone and explained to them that in order to wash away the germs, that they must wash their hands thoroughly every single time!!!

No more of this…wet hands=clean hands!!!
This idea is from our Hands On Homeschooling curriculum.

I am linking this up with Ticia’s Sunday Science blog carnival. Be sure to stop over for more great science fun for little ones!

Super cool, I just don’t have bar soap at all in our house, it just ends up getting messy somehow.
