I have gotten a number of questions basically about our homeschool. So, I have decided to start a series of posts about some of our routines, etc. Plus, I have created a number of printables that I use that help me out tremendously. I plan to share those in hopes that they will help someone else in their homeschool journey.
So, something that has worked well for us are these little books to help the kids (and me) memorize their Bible verses. All they are are little mini albums for 4×6 inch photos. I took out the cover page and let the kids decorate their own. I also typed up and printed out the “Hiding God’s Word in my Heart” and glued in onto their cover page. You can download the little cover page here. My kids love their little books and I have noticed that they are doing alot better at retaining their verses.
I print the verses from various sites and I make my own (I will be posting mine in the next few weeks). I print them onto 4×6 inch blank index cards….as if I were printing 4×6 inch photos. Here is a little tip…some of sites just have the verses on an 8.5×11 inch page. To size them down to fit in our 4×6 index cards, I simply resize the print size to 4×6 and adjust the scale to fit the page. Print and let the kids tuck them into their albums. (Does this make any sense???)
Anyhow, here are some of the sites that I print our verses from:

Totally Tots
Also, be sure to check back because I will be posting the verses that I have made as well…
In addition to putting the cards in their little books, I print an 8.5×11 to hang on our Bible board in our schoolroom…as a reminder to me and the kids. (I have to do this, otherwise…out of site…out of mind…I will forget to ask the kids about their verses.) PLUS, I also print an extra 4×6 to post on my kitchen cabinets. This way I remember to talk about their verses…even if we are not in our schoolroom. (Like I said, out of site…out of mind.) Having them posted in the kitchen has been super helpful.
This is one of the things that I am doing to raise my rock stars!!!

What a great idea. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Carissa!
For the most part I use the NIV version with the kids.
Carissa
What version of the Bible do you use?
Mama Jenn
Hi Valerie! We started using the Bible Memory books when my older boys were 4 and my daughter was 5. The 4 year olds could not read most of the words, but they wanted to be like big sis and still worked to memorize scriptures.
Valerie
I’m wondering at what age you start this with your kids.
Mama Jenn
JuRita,
I have already started uploading them. If you click on my Printables category, you will be able to see what I have added so far.

Love it Jenn! Will you make your memory cards available for print? I love the simplicity! God has gifted you with creativity and organization for sure 😉

Mama-Jenn,
I do the same thing for my children except, I put a miniature version of all of the subjects we study for the week. It also works well for when we travel (run errands, etc.).

Great idea!

You know that we love these little books! 🙂

I was motivated to pull my daughter out of preschool next year and start teaching her at home after reading your blog. You do a wonderful job and things like this post and the edible crayons excite me on all the fun we can have. I ran across another site you may be interested in for great ideas, especially Biblical ones – http://www.daniellesplace.com
Thanks Jenn! You are such a blessing.

This is a great idea–I’ll remember this for when juliet starts reading on her own!
