Math is more fun when it is hands-on and engaging, which is why I made lots of interactive math printables and printable games for my children. This math game, Off the Grid, provides a fun way to reinforce and practice basic addition and subtraction skills.

Materials Needed:

  • Two cubes/dice – One with three addition symbols and three subtraction symbols. The other with 1, 2, 3, 10, 20 & 30 OR any other numbers you would like to use. (We prefer to use either our Education Cubes or our Write-On Wipe-Off Dice.)
  • Counters (We use a magnetic cookie sheet and our puff ball magnets

Prepare the Game:

Print one game board. Laminate for durability and repeated use or slide it into a page protector.

How to Play the Game:

Each player begins by placing their counter on a number on the board between 40 and 70. Each player takes turns rolling both of the dice/cubes and moving along the board as indicated by what is rolled.

The winner is the first person to get “off the grid” (i.e. the first person to get off the board by rolling something that takes them below 1 or above 100).

See the Game in Action with 3 Players:

Each player chooses a counter and a starting number. Player Red selects 51. Player Green selects 36. Player Yellow selects 55.
