What I Love About This Master Books High School Curriculum

The very first thing I noticed when I opened the student book was the color.

And I don’t mean a few colorful pages sprinkled throughout the curriculum.

I mean color everywhere – on every page! Love it!

I immediately appreciated how visually engaging this course is. Every section includes beautiful photographs, maps, charts, diagrams, and colorful layouts that help bring the material to life.

Geography, in my opinion, is inherently visual. Students are studying mountains, deserts, glaciers, coastlines, cultures, cities, and people from around the world. It makes sense that a geography curriculum should reflect that visually.

When I showed the curriculum to one of my sons, his first comment was, “Ooh, that’s a lot of color.”

That immediately made me laugh because the geography curriculum he used for high school geography included black-and-white textbooks and worksheets.

His reaction confirmed one of my first impressions: World Geography and Cultures does an excellent job of bringing geography to life through colorful maps, photographs, and visual elements.

I found myself flipping through page after page simply because it was enjoyable to look at.

One of my favorite things about Master Books World Geography and Cultures is that it’s both structured and flexible – at the same time.

As a homeschool mom, I appreciate structure. I want to know:

Why This World Geography and Cultures Course Would Have Worked for All of My Kids

One thing I kept thinking while reviewing this curriculum was how differently each of my children would have approached it.

My boys were very much the “tell me what I need to do so I can finish it” type of students. They wanted clear assignments, straightforward expectations, and minimal extras.

I think they would have appreciated the read-and-respond format of this course. Read the lesson, complete the worksheet, work on the map, and move on.

My daughter, however, would have enjoyed choosing from the optional projects, exploring additional research opportunities, and bringing some of the geography concepts to life through creative activities.

What impressed me is that the curriculum accommodates both learning styles.

It provides structure first and then allows students to follow their interests.

As homeschoolers, that’s one of the greatest advantages we have. We can adapt learning experiences to fit each child’s personality and strengths.

Thankfully, that was NOT the case.

After the introductory material and suggested schedule, much of the guide consists of student worksheets, project ideas, map activities, and answer keys.

I actually see that as a huge benefit.

The curriculum allows students to work independently while still providing parents with the tools needed to monitor progress and assess understanding.

For homeschool families juggling multiple children, independent courses become much more valuable during the high school years.

After reviewing this curriculum, I genuinely wish I could have used this when my children were completing high school geography.
