The purpose of my LIFE posts is to share little tidbits of what is going on in my world, that would otherwise probably NOT make it into a blog post! Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Sometimes funny, sometimes serious. But, always REAL!
Want a glimpse into my wild & crazy life? Then stick around!
Want to get to all my free printables? Head on over!
Free Fun
If you have not checked your local parks and recreation site, I would HIGHLY recommend it! My kids and I were able to try out archery and water-skiing for FREE!!! We had so much fun!
I was determined to make sure that I was more of a participant in the activities, rather than hiding behind the camera taking all the photos (that still have yet to be scrapbooked…seriously, I’m YEARS behind!)
Yes, that is me on the water skis! My kids were certain that I was NOT going to be able to get up, but look who proved them wrong! Now I just need to prove myself to my kids on the basketball court!
Peaches Galore
While our own peach trees didn’t produce much, my neighbor’s tree went crazy! We had three tables set up in our garage and she filled the three tables with peaches THREE times!
So, I got to work! Mind you, I had never really…technically canned anything before…at least not by my definition of canning. I put stuff in a jar and put the jar in the freezer, but never had I put stuff in a jar and then left said jar on a shelf for nasty, green stuff to grow inside it!
Long story short, I purchased the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving, some jars/lids, a canning pot, and my handy-dandy jar lifter and I nervously got to work! I followed the directions in the book and surprisingly I canned the peaches…I really canned the peaches! I ended up with:
-
22 jars of peach butter
-
17 jars of sliced peaches
-
8 jars of peach jam
-
7 jars of cinnamon peach jam
(Plus, I also made and froze 2 loaves of peach bread, 11 dozen peach muffins, 6 peach pies, 4 peach cobblers, and 4 gallon size bags of sliced peaches for smoothies.)
Needless to say, I am so stinkin’ proud of myself! For awhile, I wouldn’t let anyone open any of the jars, because I just liked looking at them in my pantry!
But, I got over it and so far, the peach jams and butters taste great, no one has gotten sick, and don’t have any signs of green stuff growing inside the jars! What a relief!
My Daughter’s 1st Craft Show
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. My mom is an entrepreneur and as a girl I got my hustle on selling handmade hairbows, bracelets, and earrings at my mom’s craft shows. And now, my daughter is doing the same!
She had her very first craft show to sell her crocheted scarves, headbands and beaded jewelry. What made it extra special was that my mom just happened to be in town for the craft show. She helped her set up her booth and taught her a few tricks of the trade!
My daughter was so thrilled when someone that she didn’t know made a purchase from her! I guess it “didn’t count” when family and friends made purchases! Although, she had no problem whatsoever taking our money! {grins}
We even created business cards and a little website for her! The girl is on cloud nine! Now, if only I can find out about some more local craft shows so that her inventory doesn’t continue to overtake her bedroom!
An Unexpected Trip to the Dentist
I am still not certain HOW this happened, but a certain son of mine got out of the pool crying and hesitantly opened his mouth!
Um, yeah, before he got in the pool, that front tooth on the left used to look like the one beside it. Apparently, he “somehow” hit his tooth on the bottom of the pool.
Needless to say, we had to make an unexpected trip to the dentist. While I would have preferred to tell the dentist that my son’s broken tooth happened while playing hockey or football, he unsuccessfully tried to reassure me that this was not altogether uncommon for swimming! Really?!?!?!???
Well, that’s it for now! Stay tuned for more LIFE!
