My blog buddy Erica over at Confessions of a Homeschooler has done it again! First, she created her Letter of the Week Preschool Curriculum, which is awesome! Now, she has created a complete world geography curriculum called Expedition Earth: A Journey Through God’s World!
If you have seen any of her Letter of the Week curriculum, you KNOW that Erica is very thorough with what she does. Well, the geography curriculum is that and alot more! When I got the download and began to look through it, my brain totally started reeling! I began to plan for our 2011-2012 school year when we will be studying world geography…and we haven’t even started the 2010-2011 school year! To say that I am excited about this curriculum is a complete understatement!
Expedition Earth covers 31 countries and is designed for grades K-3. The download is 160+ pages! (I told you Erica is thorough!!!) Each country comes with a week long Lesson plan. Activities and topics include:
7 Wonders of the World
Geographical Location
Science: Ecosystems Study
Geography Vocabulary
People of the Region
How to Pray for the Regions
Language Study
Christmas around the world
Children like me
Science: Animals mini-books for each country
Science: Animal Classification Study
Country Report
Continent Report
Animal Report
Ecosystem Report
Children Like Me Report
Food and recipes
Craft activities
Country Songs
Passport
Fun activities, games, and more!!!
Head over to Confessions of a Homeschooler to download the sample Brazil week!
What I really love is how she includes crafts!!! If you keep up with my blog, you know we LOVE crafts! Plus, I love how she incorporates praying for each of the countries! I feel that you become more interested in what you are learning when you are pouring your heart into it. What a great way to pour your heart into the countries by praying for them as you study and learn about them! An added bonus is that everything is all laid out…with lists!!! I LOVE lists and I make them ALL.THE.TIME!!! This way, I know what craft supplies I will need and I know what books I need to get from the library or purchase!
ALL of this in included for only $15! I have paid ALOT more for curricula that doesn’t begin to include as much information as Expedition Earth! So, needless to say, Erica’s is practically giving this away! Once you get the download, you will COMPLETELY understand what I am talking about!!!
Erica has graciously agreed to give away a copy of the Expedition Earth to one of my readers! But, if you can’t wait to see if you win, head on over and purchase the Expedition Earth: A Journey Into God’s World!
I almost forgot!!!! As an added bonus, you can download Erica’s Expedition Earth: Discovering God’s Animals to go along with the curriculum for free!!! PLUS, Maureen at Spell Outloud has created a Continent Hopscotch Game (also free) to go along with the curriculum!
Ready to win??? Check out the giveaway information below…

I’ve always loved geography and remember in 7th grade before we began learning about Africa that our teacher asked us to draw the “outline” of the continent from memory. There were some pretty hilarious drawings!
I downloaded the Brazil curriculum. I love how user-friendly it is and LOVE the variety of activities Erica has developed! Looking forward to using it next year with my son!

When I was in school to help up learn the United States map, we painted a HUGE map on the playground. The states varied in color, so that 2 states near one another weren’t the same color. It took us about 2 wks, start to finish, but it was amazing. In our class we would stand out there and the teacher would call out a state fact (My state flower is the Poppy) and a student name, then we would run to that state. Needless to say this was way more fun than the song that some of learned. I still know all of my states. Thanks!

Something I remember learning about world geography as a child was the pyramids in Egypt when I was about 8 or 9. We did some really fun crafts to go with that unit study, and that seems to have made it stick for me more than some of the “drier” learning.
I downloaded the free Brazil sample (soooo impressed!!!) and my favourite part is definitely the rainforest craft activity. I am just amazed by the educational value in such a fun activity that I know my kids are going to LOVE! If I don’t win Erica’s curriculum from you, I will be purchasing it to download. I was always interested in learning about Christmas in other countries. I especially remember doing a project on Sweden and focusing on this. We still practice some of those traditions in our family now! (We have Swedish heritage, but the traditions had been lost in the generations since immigration.)
For Letter of the Week: I like Z best. That zebra is just so cute. That was what got me to look at the curriculum in the first place!

My favorite memory of geography was doing Memphis in May through out grade school. Each year it was a different country and we would spend the entire month learning everything we could about it. On the last day of our study we would have a huge picnic and dress like the people from the country and eat food from that country.

Letter of the week. We haven’t done too many yet, but I’m looking forward to the Dd dinosaur’s unit (in a couple weeks). We have a lot of extra things to add to it that the kiddos are going to love. I love that each of her letters of the week set such a fantastic foundation to build upon! Wouldn’t have to add anything!

I would love this for my younger children.
I downloaded the Brazil sample and learned what the colors of their flag represented. Blue for Rio (I’d love to see that in person LOL), yellow for their gold, and green for their fields.
Oh and I forgot to post my favorite letter in my LotW comment. B is for Butterfly, C is for Caterpillar, and J is for Jesus. I can’t pick one of anything. Ever.
I am using some of the LoW with my toddler. Best $10 I spent on her.

I loved World Geography but don’t remember learning much about it before 6th grade or 9th grade. I enjoyed learning about the Country Capitals and I did a country report on Columbia where my uncle lived for a while. He was able to come to my class and show some pictures of the country. It got me really interested in South America. I don’t remember a ton of specific facts but I do know where most countries are located on the map.
I downloaded the sample of Brazil and was very impressed by this curriculum because it’s very thorough. My husband lived in Brazil for two years so it was interesting learning a bit more about the culture. I liked the integration of books including Children Like Me.

Sorry! I read blogs – but I’m just now getting into posting on them… 🙂
I’m glad that Erica’s Blog led me to yours. You have a busy house and I have boys the same age as yours (only one of each though). We love the Letter of the Week Cur. J is my favorite letter. J for Jesus! 🙂 It makes me so happy to be able to teach my boys the letter J using the most magnificant name of all! Erica has it all laid out. She has put so much work into her program. I know that her Expedition Earth cur. must be fantastic as well and I would love to win it! 🙂 I bought the download of her L of the W cur to use with my youngest this year. And, I subscribe to her blog. That is how I found out about you. Have a great day and a super school year!

I would love to win this to use with teaching my son who loves to learn.

I would love to win this download to use with my children and our homeschool co-op. We already have the co-op planned for this year but this would be wonderful next year. The co-op is just my children (6 of whom are homeschooled still) and a friend’s children (4 of hers).
My fingers are crossed as this would be such a great thing for us all to do as a group!
And thank you for the giveaway!
As far as my favorite LOTW curriculum letter its a toss up. I really like the B & C they kind of go hand in hand (butterflies & caterpillars) But I alos like her new letter A. I mean who doesn’t get excited about teaching about apples in the fall & all the fun stuff you can do with that. I could easily spend 3 weeks on the letter A.
One thing I remember learning in geography when in school is that Spain and Maine are at about the same latitiude. Yet they have vastly different climates.

I love the letter of the week curriculum! My favorite one is probably E is for elephants because those elephants are so darn cute.
I rememver as a kid Russia still being referred to as the USSR rather than Russia.:)
I really like the passport idea on the EE download. On the Brazil I love the rainforest diorama! What kid wouldn’t love that!

I just started using the letter of the week curric. We are only on letter D, but C was my favorite because I loved the catepillar!
I love the rainforest diorama in the sample of the Brazil week. My son is all about the crafts!!
I remember the Geo Safari games that we used to play with when I was a kid. I still remember alot of country flags and famous landmarks….I surprise myself sometimes lol. I also can remember the general area of where alot of countries are located….so I think that my mom did a fantastic job. 🙂
I also love Confessions of a Homeschooler blog and have been following that for a while.
I don’t remember learning anything about world geography until high school….how sad is that? Our big project at that time was doing a report on a country (before computers of course, lol)

I remember learning about each country in sixth grade, and at the end of each week we had to be able to find the country on an unlabeled map as our test. Everyone in class was able to watch each person label the map, but couldn’t them if it was wrong. I remember enjoying it.

I’ve always been a map fanatic, so learning about faraway lands was especially exciting. But Australia has always been my favorite – and we were able to make our first visit when I was 11. The Great Barrier Reef was so much more than I could ever have imagined!
We love the A unit (my DD’s name begins with A). The apples are so perfect for this time of year (we’ve visited an orchard) and the ant counting activity was a hit since I let DD cut out the ants herself. Scissors work is her favorite thing right now.

I remember learning the countries and their capitals for school. My dad challenged me to memorize them faster than him. I took North America, South America and Europe. He stomped me in Africa and Asia! I’ve been looking for a better way to incorporate Geography into my K/1st grader’s lessons.
I subscribe to Confessions of a Homeschooler and LOVE IT!
