My blog buddy Erica over at Confessions of a Homeschooler has done it again! First, she created her Letter of the Week Preschool Curriculum, which is awesome! Now, she has created a complete world geography curriculum called Expedition Earth: A Journey Through God’s World!

If you have seen any of her Letter of the Week curriculum, you KNOW that Erica is very thorough with what she does. Well, the geography curriculum is that and alot more! When I got the download and began to look through it, my brain totally started reeling! I began to plan for our 2011-2012 school year when we will be studying world geography…and we haven’t even started the  2010-2011 school year! To say that I am excited about this curriculum is a complete understatement!

Expedition Earth covers 31 countries and is designed for grades K-3. The download is 160+ pages! (I told you Erica is thorough!!!) Each country comes with a week long Lesson plan. Activities and topics include:

7 Wonders of the World

Geographical Location

Science: Ecosystems Study

Geography Vocabulary

People of the Region

How to Pray for the Regions

Language Study

Christmas around the world

Children like me

Science: Animals mini-books for each country

Science: Animal Classification Study

Country Report

Continent Report

Animal Report

Ecosystem Report

Children Like Me Report

Food and recipes

Craft activities

Country Songs

Passport

Fun activities, games, and more!!!

Head over to Confessions of a Homeschooler to download the sample Brazil week!

What I really love is how she includes crafts!!! If you keep up with my blog, you know we LOVE crafts! Plus, I love how she incorporates praying for each of the countries! I feel that you become more interested in what you are learning when you are pouring your heart into it. What a great way to pour your heart into the countries by praying for them as you study and learn about them!  An added bonus is that everything is all laid out…with lists!!! I LOVE lists and I make them ALL.THE.TIME!!! This way, I know what craft supplies I will need and I know what books I need to get from the library or purchase!

ALL of this in included for only $15! I have paid ALOT more for curricula that doesn’t begin to include as much information as Expedition Earth! So, needless to say, Erica’s is practically giving this away! Once you get the download, you will COMPLETELY understand what I am talking about!!!

Erica has graciously agreed to give away a copy of the Expedition Earth to one of my readers! But, if you can’t wait to see if you win, head on over and purchase the Expedition Earth: A Journey Into God’s World!

I almost forgot!!!! As an added bonus, you can download Erica’s Expedition Earth: Discovering God’s Animals to go along with the curriculum for free!!! PLUS, Maureen at Spell Outloud has created a Continent Hopscotch Game (also free) to go along with the curriculum!

Ready to win??? Check out the giveaway information below…

I would love to win this simply because my daughter (6) is very interested in learning about anything pertaining to other parts of the world. Right now she’s transforming her room into an arctic region. Last week, it was Japan. To think about how excited this would make her, makes me just as excited.

When I was in school to help up learn the United States map, we painted a HUGE map on the playground. The states varied in color, so that 2 states near one another weren’t the same color. It took us about 2 wks, start to finish, but it was amazing. In our class we would stand out there and the teacher would call out a state fact (My state flower is the Poppy) and a student name, then we would run to that state. Needless to say this was way more fun than the song that some of learned. I still know all of my states. Thanks!

I’ve always LOVED geography. I remember being in 6th grade and learning countries and capitals and coloring maps. Just the idea of foreign places & cultures intrigued me. Now my family & I live in Peru and are finishing up our 5-year commitment as missionaries.

My favorite memory of geography was doing Memphis in May through out grade school. Each year it was a different country and we would spend the entire month learning everything we could about it. On the last day of our study we would have a huge picnic and dress like the people from the country and eat food from that country.

I loved World Geography but don’t remember learning much about it before 6th grade or 9th grade. I enjoyed learning about the Country Capitals and I did a country report on Columbia where my uncle lived for a while. He was able to come to my class and show some pictures of the country. It got me really interested in South America. I don’t remember a ton of specific facts but I do know where most countries are located on the map.

I’m glad that Erica’s Blog led me to yours. You have a busy house and I have boys the same age as yours (only one of each though). We love the Letter of the Week Cur. J is my favorite letter. J for Jesus! 🙂 It makes me so happy to be able to teach my boys the letter J using the most magnificant name of all! Erica has it all laid out. She has put so much work into her program. I know that her Expedition Earth cur. must be fantastic as well and I would love to win it! 🙂 I bought the download of her L of the W cur to use with my youngest this year. And, I subscribe to her blog. That is how I found out about you. Have a great day and a super school year!

As far as my favorite LOTW curriculum letter its a toss up. I really like the B & C they kind of go hand in hand (butterflies & caterpillars) But I alos like her new letter A. I mean who doesn’t get excited about teaching about apples in the fall & all the fun stuff you can do with that. I could easily spend 3 weeks on the letter A.

I remember learning the countries and their capitals for school. My dad challenged me to memorize them faster than him. I took North America, South America and Europe. He stomped me in Africa and Asia! I’ve been looking for a better way to incorporate Geography into my K/1st grader’s lessons.

I think my favorite thing from Geography as a child…. would have to be when we were doing ‘Mapping the World by Heart.’ I loved making the maps, and I regret never finishing the program.

There is only one thing I remember about geography that I learned as a child. My mom was our girl scout troop leader and one year we had a around the world kind of expo where troops from the area came together. Each troop represented one country. We chose Mexico and my mom made the most AMAZING food!! I can’t even remember what it was….just that I LOVED them! lol
