I knew my son would love this beginner blockchain course from Mr. D Math, but I didn’t expect to get so interested in it myself!

If you had told me a year ago that I would be willingly sitting through lessons about cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, I probably would have laughed.

Honestly, I thought cryptocurrency sounded a little… out there.

I’m a math person. But, I’m also very concrete in my thinking. Digital currency that only exists online? Bitcoin? Blockchain? It all felt confusing and abstract to me, and definitely not something I ever imagined actually incorporating it in our homeschool.

But my son had other ideas.

For over a year now, he has been increasingly interested in investing and the stock market. It wasn’t enough for me to simply tell him that we already had an investment account set up for him.

He wanted to understand investing for himself. He started watching the market, following trends, asking questions, and even signed up for a Robinhood account at one point because he wanted to learn more about day trading and investing.

The problem was that he really didn’t know where to begin.

I received this product free of charge for review purposes and was compensated for my time. All opinions expressed in this post are my own and I was not required to post a positive review of the product.

But then I discovered the Blockchain Beginner – The Genesis Block course from Mr. D Math. I immediately knew it would grab his attention.

And I was right. It turned out to be exactly what he needed to get started!

Why We Chose This Blockchain Course for Teens

We have used numerous courses from Mr. D Math over the years and they have consistently delivered high-quality, engaging instruction. This course was no exception.

Even though this is a beginner blockchain course rather than a traditional math course, it still had the same organized structure, clear instruction, and practical approach we’ve come to expect from Mr. D Math.

The course is divided into 11 sections:

  • Welcome
  • Introduction
  • Bitcoin Basics
  • Money and Cryptocurrency
  • Blockchain
  • Security
  • Crypto Picture Dictionary
  • Research
  • Civic Engagement
  • Blockchain Careers
  • Celebration

As a homeschool mom, I appreciate that the course assumes students are beginners and gradually builds understanding step by step. This truly is a blockchain course for beginners, even non-techy learners, like myself.

A Beginner Blockchain Course That Made Blockchain Basics Easy to Understand

Before I even showed the blockchain course to my son, I started previewing some of the lessons.

I was honestly shocked by how approachable it felt.

One of the first videos walks students through what cryptocurrency is, how blockchain works, and even how to create a cryptocurrency wallet. The course explains blockchain fundamentals in a way that makes sense without talking over students’ heads.

Some of the concepts covered include:

  • What cryptocurrency is and how it works
  • Blockchain technology and transparent recordkeeping
  • Cryptography and digital security
  • The difference between cryptocurrency and fiat currency
  • Bitcoin mining and limited supply
  • How cryptocurrency wallets work
  • Why security matters in the crypto world

The course also includes “Knowledge Checks” (aka mini quizzes) throughout the lessons, along with essays, reports, presentations, tables, and various engaging activities.

The students create a business plan and elevator pitch. They complete a blockchain career assessment and learn how to search for blockchain related internships and job postings.

The students create a resume tailored to blockchain occupations. They even write a one minute policy pitch about blockchain technology.

In other words, this isn’t just passive video watching. Students are actively engaging with the material.

How This Introduction to Blockchain Led My Son to Buy Bitcoin

The biggest surprise for me came when the course showed just how easy it is to purchase Bitcoin. After watching the lesson, I mentioned to my son how simple the process looked.

Within minutes, he had opened his Cash App and purchased his first dollar of Bitcoin.

Then he bought four more dollars.

He was absolutely thrilled!

“Mom, I’m a day trader now,” he announced proudly as he started checking the Bitcoin price throughout the rest of the day.

What made the experience especially approachable for him was the fact that he already had a little graduation money sitting in his Cash App account. He told me, “Mom, I love this because I’m not really using my own money from my bank account. I’m just using money that’s sitting in my Cash App.”

Since then, he has checks his Bitcoin account regularly – like multiple times a day throughout the day – to see whether it has gone up or down.

He already developed a plan for when he will sell his five dollars of Bitcoin for a profit.

And honestly? I love seeing him this engaged in learning!

Learning Blockchain for Beginners Alongside My Teen

One of the most unexpected parts of this experience has been my own growing interest in the course.

I originally signed my son up because I knew he would love it. What I did not expect was that I would find myself watching lessons because I was genuinely intrigued too.

As someone who previously knew virtually nothing about cryptocurrency, I appreciate how the course made seemingly complicated topics feel understandable.

I also appreciate that the course doesn’t feel hype-driven or irresponsible. Instead, it presents blockchain for high school students in a thoughtful, educational way while encouraging students to think critically and understand both the opportunities and responsibilities involved.

For example, one lesson explains that there is no customer service if you lose your password to a crypto wallet. That may sound like a small detail, but it helps reinforce the importance of responsibility and digital security.

As homeschool parents, we are constantly trying to prepare our children for the real world, and the reality is that blockchain technology, cryptocurrency, and Web3 are becoming increasingly relevant.

Even if my son never becomes a cryptocurrency investor, I still believe there is value in understanding the technology and concepts that will likely shape the future.

The Mr. D Math Homework Helper: A Safe AI Homework Helper for Students

Another feature worth mentioning is the Mr. D Math Homework Helper.

As a homeschool mom, I know many parents are hesitant about AI tools because they worry their kids will simply use them to cheat or get answers without learning the material. It’s definitely one of my concerns!

But, the Mr. D Math Homework Helper is different because students are guided through the thinking process instead of simply being handed answers.

This AI homework helper acts more like a 24/7 virtual tutor by asking questions, breaking down concepts, and helping students think through problems step by step.

And, since it’s fully synced with the Mr. D Math coursework, it encourages real understanding rather than shortcut learning.

Final Thoughts on This Beginner Blockchain Course from Mr. D Math

I love how the Blockchain Beginner course opened the door to meaningful conversations about investing, technology, digital security, and financial literacy in a way that my son was actually excited about!

Those conversations alone made the course worthwhile for me because it encouraged him to think critically about the future instead of simply memorizing information for a test.

As homeschool parents, we don’t have to be experts in every subject our children are interested in. Sometimes our role is simply to recognize curiosity and provide opportunities for growth.

This course did exactly that for our family!
