One of my 5 year olds, DC, has been making “Creative Books” for quite awhile now. These are simply collections of his artwork stapled together with a title page. However, he decided to make some to sell! Yes, this was his creative genius…he is trying to save up his money to buy a Talking Woody Doll. Anyhow, he started tracing pages from coloring books to make “Creative Books” that other kids can color. Essentially, he is making/tracing coloring books to sell! Initially I thought it was just a cute idea but I soon realized that this is GREAT fine motor practice!
Here are some of the pages in his first creative book for sale.
Now, I think the best part has GOT to be the title page! It reads:
Creative Book. Whoever picks out this book can draw in it if they want to. You may not tear out the pages.
I just thought this was the cutest ever! Of course, I bought this one!!! It was well worth the $1 I paid for it! LOL So, if your kids are so inclined, let them try their hand at tracing! It is a GREAT way to work on fine motor skills plus it takes quite a bit of concentration!

I told my 5 year old about this and he loves it! He’s trying to sell one to anyone and everyone! He’s even creating his own coloring books (black and white drawings of things) and offering those for sale (of course)! Thanks for the idea!

My kids always are drawing pictures to sell. It is sweet. These are some great memories they are making! I will encourage the printing more!

LOVE this! How cute! The title page is precious!!!
I have had a little trouble with my own kids wanting to make things and sell them. So far, I haven’t felt like it is anything worthy of going up the street with, which is what they want to do. So, I have had to very gently explain to them how to provide for a market, how to price something, etc. without crushing their creative genius. It is so hard!

Had to chuckle over the line, “You may not tear out the pages.” Great idea on the motor skills, we are working on that around here.
