Enjoy movie night with this clean, family-friendly mystery that is written/produced by homeschoolers, about homeschoolers, starring homeschoolers!
How often has this scenario happened to your family? The popcorn is popped and everyone is excited because it’s time for family movie night. You’ve got what you *hope* is a great movie lined up for the family to watch. But, after a few scenes you find yourself fast-forwarding through inappropriate material. You’re trying to catch curse words and mute them before the young impressionable ears hear them.
Or, your older kids are bored because they are forced to watch a movie designed for little kids, because there is nothing suitable for ALL the different ages of your kids.
Whatever the scenario, I’ve been there more times than I’d like to admit!
If you’re in search of a movie for the family that doesn’t require you to plug your kids’ ears, close their eyes, or keep a trigger finger on the remote control, then I’ve got the perfect film for you!
A Family-Friendly Detective Movie:
Mount Hideaway Mysteries: Exes and Oh No’s is a family-friendly movie about a government operative who moves back to her rural hometown in an effort to get away from the “spy life.”
However, when the townspeople start getting murdered and a nearby secret government facility is threatened, she is convinced to investigate…unofficially.
Without agency resources available, she reaches out to her childhood friends to help solve the mysteries plaguing the town.
Homeschool-Friendly!
The mystery is written/produced by homeschoolers, about homeschoolers, starring homeschoolers! While I believe this movie is great for everyone to watch, homeschoolers will especially appreciate this film and find it rather refreshing!
The writer/director (a homeschool dad), weaves homeschooling into the plot in ways that homeschool families will readily recognize. The film presents homeschooling in a positive light and addresses many of the stereotypes that homeschoolers often face.
Our Thoughts:
Finally, a movie that the whole family can enjoy and we didn’t have to touch the remote once throughout the entire film (unless you count pausing for a bathroom break). Everyone could keep their eyes open and no one had to plug their ears!
I love the true-to-life expressions of homeschooling scattered throughout the film! For example, the movie opens with the homeschoolers learning about crime science in an interactive, hands-on way!
Side note: Did you know that you can use household glue to raise fingerprints off of a doorknob? Or, that apple seeds can be used to make cyanide? I didn’t…but I learned about both in the movie! Leave it to a film about homeschoolers to teach a homeschool mom something she didn’t know! Love it!
Mount Hideaway Mysteries: Exes and Oh No’s is wholesome and clean, yet captivating and mysterious. The movie left us desiring more, in a good way, as in: I can’t wait for the next Mount Hideaways Media film to come out!
