I affectionately refer to my husband as “Bible Man” because he seems to be able to quote just about anything from Bible, reference and all! This is a great quality to have, especially when it comes to teaching and training our kids with the Word of God. As a child training issue arises, my husband seems to instantaneously scroll through his mental Bible rolodex to find the perfect, most applicable scripture.

I, unlike my husband, am NOT a walking concordance. However, that does not neglect the fact that I want discipline and training for my children to be rooted and grounded in the Word of God. Hence, I KNEW I had found a real jewel when I discovered the Child Training Bible!

754

Make the truths of God’s Word foremost in your parenting by taking your child directly to the pages of Scripture with this colorfully tabbed Bible with highlighted verses. You will be ready with The Holy Word of God at your fingertips in the moment you need it! –CTB Website

I am well aware that sound Bible-based child-training and discipline are far more powerful and effective than “because mommy said so.” Not only is there power in being able to teach and train my kids by quoting verses from the Bible, but I have found there is even more tremendous power when I am able to take the time to physically open the Bible with my children and teach and train them directly from the Word of God…and that is EXACTLY what the Child Training Bible allows me to do! I love how the Child Training Bible creator, Mindy Dunn says it:

I must give my children a physical experience with the Holy Word of God.
They must see the Bible. Open the Bible. Become familiar with the text of the Bible.
Whenever there is a problem, I want to train my children to immediately run to the Lord, seek His Words, and allow His truth to saturate the situation.
Going to the Scripture chart on the fridge is…good. Using Scripture notecards in my pocket during the day is…good. Bible memorization is also very good.
Opening the very Word of God is…the best!
-Mindy Dunn, CTB Website

So, what exactly is the Child Training Bible? The Child Training Bible is a 9” x 6” Bible with colorfully tabbed behavior issues and correlating highlighted scriptures addressing each issue. The tabs make it easy to locate specific Bible verses corresponding to each of the twenty behavioral issues addressed.

How can I make my own Child Training Bible? The value of the Child Training Bible is well worth the time it takes to make it! The needed supplies include:

1 Child Training Bible Key (made of glossy cardstock)
3 CTB Tabbers/Charts (made of double-sided cardstock designed to fit 9” x 6” Bibles)
1 Set of Instructions for making your Child Training Bible
(All Purchased directly from the Child Training Website for $9.00)

AND

Bible (any version measuring 9” x 6”)
Post-it Flags (yellow, blue, red, green, purple, teal, and pink)
Highlighters to match the Post-it Flags
(Purchased separately)

 751

Once you have all of your supplies, the video tutorial below provides an excellent explanation of how to set up and use your Child Training Bible!

How do YOU use the Child Training Bible? Want to see the Child Training Bible in action? Here is how I used it for the very first time. I was so thrilled with not just the result, but the entire process! One of my boys (almost 5 years old) continued to get up from the dinner table after I had told him not to. I quickly took my son’s hand and walked him into the living room (grabbing my Child Training Bible on the way, of course). We sat down and I opened the Bible to the Key (attached to the front page of the Bible). I found the behavior issue that needed to be addressed: Disobedience.

756

Then I proceeded to turn to the pages marked with the purple “Disobedience” tabs at the top of the page and read the “Disobedience” scriptures also highlighted in purple.

758

The very first scripture that we read together was Exodus 20:12. My son cleverly deduced that in order to live a long time, he should honor/obey mom and dad!

757

The tabber/chart set even include scripts that you can use to get to the heart of your child’s behavior, point your child to Jesus’ as the perfect example of what we should and should not do, and prayers that you can conclude with.

760

I was so thrilled with how my son responded to the entire process. It was such a special time and I truly felt that “this” is the right way to teach and train my kids! Thank you Mindy for creating the Child Training Bible! FYI, my son did return to the table and obediently finished his food without jumping up from his seat!

Final Thoughts: I love that I can quickly and easily find appropriate scriptures to address child-training issues as they arise. Even more, I love that my kids and I actually read what the Bible has to say about their behavior! Having these scriptures clearly marked in the Child Training Bible has truly helped me to be more effective in teaching and training my kids.

This is a great tool to teach kidos that GOD’s word has all the answers for life in Godliness…it will greatly help them see what God’s word has to say about sin… our condition that makes us desperately need a Savior who paid the price for our sin! I could greatly benifit too as I struggle with the same sins they do and could benifit from fighting temptation to sin with the word of God just as Jesus did with satan! I need to continue to hide more of God’s word in my heart too!

I would love to try this method. We currently use the CM method from Simply Charlotte with the kids for memory & Instruction in Righteousness for issues. It works well for consistency in God’s Word. However, I feel that this system would be more developmentally appropriate for my 8 year old DD. Thank you for sharing. Heading to their website now to check out more.

I would love to win this because I am trying to raise my 4 kids to KNOW the Lord, not just know of Him. This allows them to see His wisdom hands on. “Because I told you so” doesn’t work and leaves so much to debate about. I can’t tell you how many times my son (12) has asked, “But why do I have to ____” and the littles are starting to fall in line behind him in this new found rebellion. This would allow me to have clear explanations, from the highest authority!

I first saw this on Erica’s COAH and it has really been on my wishlist. My daughter will be three in July and we are already bumping heads as she is learning which buttons to push. I would love to have this resource to help really raise her right in a Bible supported discipline.

I have four children, two adopted from Ukraine at 4 and 9 years old. I am praying that they will all develop a relationship with God that will sustain them through ehatever life brings. My 9 year old came from a very hard life, and needs much more ” training” than the others. This would be a great resource for all of my children, particularly her!

Thank you so much for the wonderul idea! We have been looking for ways to not only try to get our son into learning more about God’s word, but also to help him discipline wise as well. We have used a rewards system so far (for potty problems) and even though it worked well in that aspect t didn’t really give us much to go on as far as when he was misbehaving. Thank you so much for the great idea.

I’d love a centralized resource that is easy to use. If I have to use too much brain power it just won’t happen with the distractions of 5 little children. I’d love to win this kit and then create a second copy of the Child Training Bible so I have one in the kitchen and one in the school room where we have most of our training and teaching opportunities.

I would like to win this Child Training Bible kit for my son Austin. I was told I could never have kids, so when Austin was born my husband Michael and I made the decision to dedicate him to the Lord. We went to church on Sunday morning, taught our class together, went to service and went home like normal with intents on coming back that night for the special singing program. I started feeling sick though, so I stayed home. At 3am I went into labor with him, 17 1/2 hours later I had him (Monday night), and then got discharged from the hospital on Wednesday afternoon. My husband and I never went home, but went straight from the hospital to church with our newborn. We almost lost him at 2 months old to a severe case of pyloric stenosis, and the only way we got through it was by prayer and scripture and of course Austin had surgery. Austin is 3 years old now and we have thus far been unable to teach him as much as we’d like to about the Bible, we suspect, because he has ADD or ADHD. This would be a great tool for not only teaching him, but taking to church and allowing his Sunday School teacher to use to train the other children in his class. There parents may get interested (I hope) about the CTB and buy it for themselves.

I would like to win this because, even though we are a Christian household and go to church I know I have made mistakes by not being consistent with Biblical training. Its all to easy to just say “because that’s what God wants us to do” but without the scripture to back it up there is little impact.

Very nice. I like your ideas and think this would be a great supplement for what I’ve already started doing with my son. He is three and has memorized the books of both the Old and New Testaments, but as we are moving forward and expanding his knowledge of Scriptures I think this would be benfificial for both my son and and myself. What a great way to instill God’s word in our hearts and minds. Loved the break down. Thank you for the opportunity.

You posted about this before and I checked it out and completely LOVE the idea. My WHY is so that I don’t have to run to the computer to “google” a verse on a certain subject. I’d love to be able to just pull out the Bible and flip to what I need. We are learning and memorizing verses, but it’s still difficult to find what you need when you need it sometimes, and this idea is brilliant to help with that – no stopping to google, just go straight to the subject at hand!

This is such a wonderful resource for parents! We have tried to use something similiar in the past – it was a proverbs for parents book. However, we found it very difficult to use as the verses were a KJV version, which is not easily understood by our young ones. I love this idea as we can use our tabs with whichever Bible fits our family’s needs. We are always trying to direct our children back to God’s Word when it comes to discipline and heart attitudes. I see this as a valuable, efficient, and productive way to meet that challenge!

Hi Jenn! I’m new to your website (I found it when I did a search for Resurrection cookies!) and I have enjoyed it greatly! I really appreciated your review of the child training Bible. We have 5 little ones that range in age from 1-9, and although each child has his/her own personality and discipline response, the one thing that works across the board for discipline/training is seeing what the Lord says about the given issue…it speaks volumes to my kids to hear God’s heart on it (especially my older 3). I find during my homeschooling day, that when a teaching moment in character arises, I respond with, “well, because that’s what the Bible says”….my heart tells me that I should show them specifically what the Bible says and where in the Bible it gives the instruction, but I find myself taking more time fumbling for the perfect verse! I know that it’s no excuse. There are times even in my day as a mom and wife when I could use a good verse on an area in my life…patience, trust, etc. It would benefit me, as well, to take the time to actually look up the Lord’s words at that moment and soak it in! I really enjoyed reading about the set-up and approach that the Training Bible lays out. I feel that this would work wonderfully for our family! Could you please enter me in the giveaway?? Thank you! Blessings to your family!

I’d really like to win this because I’m constantly training my kids, and to have something quick like this that I can find a reference to very fast would be awesome! Thanks for the opportunity!!

Would love to win one…because I have a hard enough time understanding and using the Bible, but to use it for a child, to make a child understand is daunting! I’ve tried children’s Bibles but they just have the nice fluffy stories in it.

I would love to have this for my girls. Everyone says that girls are so much easier than boys but I begto differ. My girls should have been boys! We are struggling with listening and following orders without commentary at the moment or just not doing what we have been asked to do at all. Or my personal favorite whining about chores.

Jenn, this would be SO helpful in our family! I have a hard time finding applicable Scriptures in the stress of the moment, and I’d really like my children to see it in God’s Word for themselves. Thanks for hosting this giveaway.
    Blessings,

Would love to win this as we are dealing with some behavior issues with our son. Will buy it if I don’t win it. Will also recommend to other parents!

This would be amazing to win as we are currently struggling with behavior issues with our oldest son. I will buy if I don’t win. Great product idea that I will share with other parents.
