The kids were very excited when we read about Martin Luther King, Jr. Once my daughter realized that his actual birthday was January 15th (the day after we started reading about him) the kids have been "celebrating" ever since!
One of our projects was making handprints. It was a slightly messy, but super simple activity!
Basically, we mixed brown and white paint to make three different shades. The kids made their handprints using each of the three different colors.
We talked about how Dr. King believed that everyone should be treated equally regardless of the color of their skin.
To go along with our “I Have a Dream” handprint craft, we read lots of books about Martin Luther King. Two of our favorites were Happy Birthday, Martin Luther King by Jean Marzollo and Martin’s Big Words by Doreen Rappaport.
