Make Your Own Gummies Kit

We have made our own chocolate! We have made our own chewing gum! And now, we have made our own gummy worms! Want to make your own gummy worms? I’ll show you how!

I received the Make Your Own Gummies Kit free of charge for review purposes. All opinions expressed in this post are my own and I was not required to post a positive review of the product.

How to Make Your Own Gummy Worms:

First, get the Make Your Own Gummies kit. It has everything you will need!

The kit includes:

  • sour mix
  • colored/flavored sugar
  • powdered seaweed
  • seaweed
  • molding starch
  • instructions (with a story about the use of seaweed)

I was most surprised by the fact that seaweed was included! Yes, seaweed! Apparently, seaweed naturally contains carrageenan, a substance that makes liquids get thicker. Never knew that!

So, let’s get started. Begin by soaking the dry seaweed in a bowl of water.

Pour the molding starch on a plate. Cut down a straw and use it to make imprints in the starch.

Mix the powdered seaweed with water and stir. Remove the dried seaweed that was soaking and add it to the powdered seaweed mixture. Heat in the microwave until the mixture foams.

*My powdered seaweed had hardened, so I had to heat and stir repeatedly so that it would mix with the water. Then it foamed.

Once the mixture starts foaming, remove it from the microwave.

The clear gel around the seaweed is carrageenan! Amazing!

At the point, we could trash the seaweed, but we were so intrigued with it that we held onto in and examined it!

Next, stir the colored sugar packet into the hot mixture. Microwave again until it foams again.

Pour the mixture into the impressions made in the starch and cool in the refrigerator.

Remove the gummy worms from the starch and gently wipe off the excess starch.

Put the sour mix and the worms in a baggie and shake!
