In a previous post, I mentioned that there were some reasons in addition to the time factor that led to my decision to delete my blog. Well, in some weird way (though embarrassed to admit it) I somehow started to feel as though my blog validated me as a mom, housewife, homeschooler, homemaker, etc. It sort of made me feel like what I did/do on a daily basis was/is important. Now, being a mom, housewife, homeschooler, homemaker, etc ARE all very important and noteworthy roles, but I shouldn’t need to have a blog to make me feel that way. Well, that is what my blog did for me. I felt “good” because I would get comments from people who were excited about some of the seemingly mundane things that I do everyday. I would check my blog throughout the day…just to see if I had any new comments. Now, don’t get me wrong, it is great to know that other people are interested in your life, but you shouldn’t need those comments to feel important! So, now I ask you, does your blog validate you? If so, please take a moment to evaluate and realize that you shouldn’t need a blog to feel important. Whatever role God has called you to is noteworthy and important…and you don’t need a blog or the blog comments to validate that role!

Great reminder! I’m brand new to blogging and I find myself anxious to check my blog, see if I have comments, etc. I need to remember what you’ve said here…so true! I love your blog design, btw!

I know you wrote this awhile ago, but I really needed it today because sometimes I get caught up in worrying about how many comments I get, or followers etc. I am seeking validation from people I don’t even know about what God has called me to do.
Shame on me.
Thanks for this reminder.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with getting validation and encouragement from comments on a blog. Of course, if blogging takes the place of time spent doing other things you should (quiet time/Bible reading), or you depend on comments more than input from God/family, then maybe! I guess, in other words, if your blog becomes a stumbling block, I understand. But, I also think you can be an encouragement to others through your blog & the sharing of your “seemingly mundane” details, and that God can send encouragement your way through your blog as well. Just my 2 cents. I don’t even know what the previous post said, so I could be way off base!!! 🙂

That is very thought provoking for sure. And I believe there are times I fall into this trap. Those are times I take to step away to just breathe and be. You know?
Very good challenge for us. Thank you for the reminder! 🙂

While I truly enjoy blogging for the creative outlet that it provides for me (I’ve learned that I really love to write), sometimes I do tend to get caught up in the comments from time to time. Like if a certain post doesn’t get a lot of comments, it makes me wonder why others may not have liked it. In reality, it shouldn’t matter if others liked it. I have to remind myself of that sometimes. My blog is for me and my family and yes it does feel good to know others read it and find it interesting, entertaining or whatever, but it’s not the end-all, be-all to who we are!
This was a great post Jenn!

I know what you mean. We need to stop focusing on that. What we do is so important, but I guess sometimes we need a little reminder.
Have a good weekend.

Hmmm! Great question, Jenn. I think we are all looking for validation in some way and blogging can be a good/bad way to get it. I go in cycles of not really looking at how many comments/page views to being overly concerned about it. It takes courage to step back (like Star did and eliminated comments altogether) and do a reality check.
I was just reading jeremiah “let him who boasts, boast in the knowledge of the Lord,” and was convicted of this very thing….what validates me. The car I drive (no), the neighborhood I live in, my job…..so many things that can take the place of what’s really important.
Great post!

Whew! Good stuff here! I find myself struggling back & forth with this too. Great post – good reminder! Thank you for sharing!
